Kaz's Burrowing Animal Project

After 3 weeks of working on Kaz's burrowing animal project...we are finally done! Yay!

It all started about a month ago when Kaz picked a warthog as his burrowing animal. He read books at school about warthogs and took notes of all important facts about them. Then the 3 week homework project came home! The project was to get a box around 15" x 15" and make the inside of the box to be "the burrow" of the warthog, the top of the box to be the "habitat" that they live in and the sides were important facts about the animal! The inside of the box should also have the animal within the burrow! Not an easy task, but we put on our thinking caps, spent probably over $100 dollars in art supplies and went for it!

put some grass on the top to create the grassy plains habitat

Sprayed adhesive to the polyfil and then put dirt all over it!
There was too much of the white polyfil showing so we had to spray brown paint over the white areas!

Kaz named him "Mogo" which is the character in one of his warthog books.

Tonight was the big 1st grade Burrowing animal performance and the kids also displayed their projects for everyone to see! The performance was so cute with lots of songs and kids doing riddles of their burrowing animals. Kaz did a great job singing the songs! He was very animated and loud!!

After the performance, the kids rushed into the cafeteria and stood next to their projects to answer any questions people had about their burrowing animal. Kaz did a great job showing off his project and also explained how we made the burrow. He was very proud of his project and it was great to see how much he has learned about the warthog!

Lastly, I just have to show the great book that Kaz wrote about warthogs!! Check it out!! He drew all of the pictures and wrote so nicely! I especially like the last page which is all about the author! :)
